Privacy
Your message
What you write stays in your browser’s memory. It is never sent to our servers or saved in your browser (no cookies, no localStorage), and it is cleared as soon as you tell the sky. Spell-check is turned off in the writing box so your browser does not send your words to a spelling service.
You don’t have to trust us on this. Open your browser’s developer tools, watch the network tab, and press “Tell the sky”. The only request it sends contains nothing more than the name you wrote after “For”, if you wrote one.
What we store
- That a star was lit, and when.
- An optional short name (“For Mom.”, up to 10 letters), only if you entered one. It is shown publicly, so don’t use anyone’s full name.
- A one-way fingerprint (hash) of your private “Keep this star” key. The key itself is only ever given to you, and it can’t be worked out from the fingerprint. It says nothing about who you are.
We do not store your IP address, location, device identifiers or any account, because there are no accounts.
So you can find your stars again, the numbers of stars you lit and their private keys (never your words) are kept in your own browser’s local storage. They are not sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes them.
Infrastructure
The site is hosted on Vercel, and star events are stored in Supabase. Like any web host, Vercel may keep short-lived request logs, including IP addresses, for security and abuse prevention. We do not combine these logs with anything else.
